On November 30, 2021, otherwise known as Giving Tuesday, we received a generous donation on behalf of the Mantooth Family of $50,000 in honor of Walter B. Mantooth. This generous donation helped us far surpass our Giving Tuesday goal of $45,000, and we ended up raising $105,510.15! This set us above all of the other 65 nonprofits raising money through the Community Foundation of West Texas on this Giving Tuesday, making us the number one nonprofit in Lubbock and the surrounding area! The Community Foundation shared with our staff that this was the largest check they have ever written to support a nonprofit!
The desires of the Mantooth Family were to establish an endowment fund with the generous donation. The purpose of the endowment is to grow over time, and help support our students for years to come. The hope is that the endowment will become a source that can be drawn upon to help cover costs of the "unglamorous" parts of doing campus ministry. The fund will help support things like building upgrades, paying bills, and basic operational expenses, things that are necessary in order to keep our ministry afloat. The idea is that the endowment will help operational costs so that when someone gives a donation through a monthly gift, Giving Tuesday, or one-time donation, it will go directly to the mission of the ministry!
This endowment is a huge blessing to Raider Catholic! This will set us up for success many years into the future, and help us continue our mission of supporting the spiritual journey of Red Raiders for years to come!
"Walter B. Mantooth III (Dub) was the oldest son of Dr. Walter and Arniece Mantooth of Lubbock. He was in the real estate and land development business for 39 years in Lubbock, and he passed away in 2008. Dub was a very kind and generous person who was quite fond of his favorite nephew, Kevin Mantooth. Not having any children of his own, he became a second dad to Kevin, and he spent the last year of his life reading the entire Bible and talking about it with his nephew. He had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh. He loved nice cars, and having lunch every day with his brother Tommy.
In 2021, we started an operations endowment in Dub’s honor for Raider Catholic. The student ministries at the JSCSC are integral to the faith formation of countless young people and we are grateful for the opportunity to help foster that development, while also honoring a beloved family member. Dub would be so proud to see the joy and passion demonstrated by all of the students and staff at Raider Catholic. Please consider making a contribution to this operations endowment by contacting Kassidy Allen, Campus Minister."
