The Diocese of Lubbock, the State of Texas, and the Diocesen Youth Retreat Team require you to be Safe Environment Trained in order to staff a DYRT retreat. Once trained, a certification lasts five years in the Diocese of Lubbock and is good for any ministry work with youth in parishes.
A staffer can go to one retreat without being trained, but these staffers must speak with the Assistant Director prior to the retreat for some valuable information and cannot continue staffing until they have met the requirenment.
VIRTUS is an internationally known and well respected best practices platform for Safe Environment training. This training is available online in Spanish and English. It is a comprehensive and multi-dimensional training that specializes in assisting churches and religious organizations in creating safe environments for children. Its mainstay course, Protecting God's Children assists the church in its efforts to recognize and stop sexual abuse.
For more information about the training email us at DYRT@raidercatholic.org
Please notify the Assistant Director to when you finish your training. The Assistant Director will contact you with a confirmation email that your certificate has been received.
If you have already been trained, you will need to renew your training if it has been five years since your last training. You can also use an equivalent training from your home diocese to validate the training you would receive here. Contact the Assistant Director to know more about this and any other situations. For more information about the purpose of this training, please visit the Diocese of Lubbock's website.
